#01, I'd really like to understand what you mean, but you'd have to be more detailed.

#02, You're stuck up for not appreciating his need for privacy.

#08, I know what you mean. Also, that's my comment, LOL.

#09, whatever keeps you going. :)

#14, there is? Being mostly outside of fandom, I hardly see anything that's NOT. -Though I wish there was more.-

#16, :(

#21, LOL

#24, yeah, that kinda sucks when you find out something you thought was you is not. It's nice that something could make you feel better about it.

#27, LOL When I was a child the noise of telephone poles scared me long before this series. I understand. >.<

#29, 0.o LOL Great! Now I'm gonna visualize it whenever I read something disappointing. :/

#36, I prefer transliterations over translations in most cases, just because I get to learn more on the culture. It is really sad how people get hated just because they changed something little so it makes more sense though. Things like "How can my feet smell if they don't have a nose?"* don't translate in most languages. Even in Spanish it would have to be translated "feet have smell". So...meh
*Ed, Edd, and Eddy

#37, you are a pervert. Get over it.

#41, LOLSailorMOon secret! (where are all of you coming from). Yeah, Sailor Mars is pretty cool.

#45, I'm so sorry you had to go through that. Some people are just really hurtful.

#47, after watching the show in my 20s I can see why.

#55, I don't know anything about that show, but I feel like that with people who ship characters like Sonic/Tails or things like that. It's just sick.

#72, OMGosh"! I have a set of those shiny, sparkly purple dice in this secret. ^___^

it's sick that some people would prefer to see the bonds of friendship run a little deeper into a more physical consummation of their feelings for one another?

OK!

No, it's sick that more than half of fandom MAKES it that way.

(Anonymous) 2008-03-16 04:47 am (UTC)(link)
Oh. I'm sorry. I wasn't aware there was some sort of quota for fandoms and fans. Once the quota was filled no more fans can come along and like it. They have to choose something different now because OMG can't have more than half of fandom (a general nebulous term that doesn't apply across the board to all fandoms, btw) liking one thing over another.

What ~are~ you talking about?

What I am saying is that it's ridiculous that so many people have to take something that one step further when it doesn't need to be. The thing is beautiful as it is. Some friendships are more beautiful than romantic relationships and some romantic relationships are sometimes more beautiful than friendships. What I'm saying is that it drives me nuts for people to take one step too far in either direction.

I think what set the anon off was you calling it 'sick'. Which, let's be honest here, is quite an inflammatory statement to make.

I think you mean translations vs. localizations, rather than transliterations vs. translations. Transliteration is taking words written in one symbol system and writing them out phonetically in a different symbol system.

And, yeah, I'm not talking about "let's make it so the series is set in America and change all the names and call the rice balls donuts!"-type changes (which work sometimes, but far more often don't), I'm just talking about little things, like your example. I'd rather translate that into a similar joke, if I can find one, than translate it literally and stick in an explanatory footnote (no pun intended).

In which case, I meant localizations. Thanks for correcting that.

Sorry, I probably shouldn't nitpick this stuff, but I can never resist.
