(Anonymous) 2008-03-16 12:49 pm (UTC)(link)72: Even 'POST'+'response response response' can be a viable game. Sure, it's easier if you're not good at writing outside of dialouge, but that doesn't mean that the players don't have to work to stay IC, or can't have meaningful character interactions. Some of the best RP I've seen has been in
A cross-section - some of the worst RP I've seen was there too. :/Prefer other things, sure, go ahead. But don't belittle LJ RPs. We can be fun and interesting too.
72 OP
(Anonymous) 2008-03-16 04:30 pm (UTC)(link)Ha ha, oh don't worry. I'm aware of that. I actually do realize that there are some pretty amazing comment logging RPs out there. There is just something about the way fandom will drop fic, drop traditional text RPs, drop other fandom friends and get all smug and egocentric about the characters they play in these RPs, most of which are a dime a dozen. Certainly, that kind of crap happens in all forms of roleplaying (oh man, I've been there, to the moon and back ugh), but there is something about the way it happens over comment-logging RPs that really irks me. I probably could have worded my post more diplomatically, but half the point of fandomsecrets is to vent, right?
Re: 72 OP
traditional text RPs
Maybe I'm not getting something, but what's the distinction you're putting forward here? I see people talking about the "comment-format interaction" you mention in ways that don't track to the style of the comment-based RPs I've participated in at all.
I was actually going to leave a massive, angry, self-righteous comment about how I'm in one big comment-based RP and run another and I feel that both of them have their moments of artistic merit that outshine, say, fic with ease. Also I've
neverrarely seen anything I'd describe as masturbatory (and when I do it's generally from the sort of people I try my best to avoid in-game).--getting back on point: I was going to, but then I read the comments and started seeing people make references to this utterly foreign style, as though there's a massive gap in quality depending how long your tags usually are. Huh? Someone explain? Because I feel like my original anger probably isn't justified, at this point.
