Star Wars: Rogue One

So like what's the deal with Star Wars: Rogue One?

It's not part of the new trilogy, is it? Why would they release it in the middle of that?

It's a prequel to the first Star Wars (A New Hope).

As to why they'd release it in the middle of the current series - because Disney is maximizing on the current interest in SW, due to The Force Awakens, but also branching out into other non-Skywalker areas of the SW universe. Sort of like what happened with the Marvel cinematic universe - many properties that support each other (while filling the coffers with box office returns).
