I DO THIS TOO OP!!! Yayyyy I'm glad to find another person who does it. I even do it for the different episodes of a TV show.

I have a lot of those mental associations lately when I'm listening to audiobooks (something I do frequently).

I sort of do this too, but not to the same extent. Also, for some reason, I find your buttons one adorable!

When I play games I like to have a TV I've already seen running in the background (no idea why), so now I associate a ton of TV shows with different parts of games. But I love how specific you brain gets, down to the extending of a pencil. That's kind of cool.

The brain is just full of odd little quirks like that, isn't it?

(I find your mechical pencil anecdote oddly fascinating (and I know exactly what type of pencil that is.).

This happens to me too, but mostly with food :I

I do this sometimes. I once spent a snow day playing The Sims and watching Psych on Netflix, and for a really long time watching/playing one always made me think of the other.

I was reading a lot of Silmarillion-based fanfic at the time I tried a new brand of hand soap, so now I have this odd association between the scent of Dial's coconut water antibacterial foaming hand soap and the sons of Fëanor.

Same here! I sometimes play videogames with the tv on. It's oddly nice having some background noise while doing stuff.

Also I had a mechanical pencil like that one and it ended up not working ever nor could I get the mines out. So frustrating. Maybe you saw one after taking a break from reading or remembered the fic while using one or something?

Those pencils are my favorite! I've even sung their praises on FS before, so now I'm wondering if I might be responsible for your association in some small way.

I like the erasers of the kind in the secret. The other kind has erasers that tend to smudge or be hard and rough. I think touching them all the time to extend/retract the lead makes them kind of icky.

I know what you mean.

The first time I started reading one author's books was around the same time I got a Cherry Cola Kissing Koolers lip gloss and now (literally over 20 years later), if I read one of her books, especially the first one I read, it reminds me of putting it on and the smell of it and if I smell something like the lip gloss or something that looks like it (http://media-cache-ak0.pinimg.com/736x/89/42/76/8942766b04c59a85232171552d9c8d52.jpg), I'm immediately reminded of her books.

With me, it's craft projects. "Oh, I remember, when I made this I was watching X movie or Y episode of Z tv show."

This happens to me with music. If I'm listening to music while reading or playing a game or even in between playing, the music gets associated with the story or game or whatever and when I listen to the music again I get flashbacks to the story/whatever. I even have a handful of songs on my current playlist that remind me of my period of depression I had during winter last year.
