OK so while I have never been much of a Tumblr reader and don't subscribe to it, I do read a few Tumblr blogs and I think I understand and can explain.

Tumblr has some interconnected social groups where members are trying to be completely egalitarian between sexualities, gender identities, races, and other identity categories. They feel it is wrong to assume default or normal vs special or different. This is the "cancer" apparently, or maybe the cancer is the disapproving attitude toward people outside their group who still feel it is inappropriate to use descriptions for what they still view as default categories, like heterosexuality.
