Genuinely confused as to what shows are so high-school-focused. Even the CW is mostly adults now (with all the superhero shows and iZombie and Originals).

They're not high school but they are really young looking actors. I know, movies are a different genre, but I recently watched "Alien" again, and I was struck by how all of those people looked like real people who might be working a cargo ship, vs the hospital or police station populated by would-be models with nary a wrinkle or extra pound.

I'm not actually getting where you think iZombie has young-looking actors. They're clearly in their 20s/30s and they don't look young. (Well, Rose does, but that's because she has a round face, which reads as young even when it's not.)

I think I get what you mean just with there being a lot of young geniuses on television, whether it's college-aged hackers or detectives under the age of thirty, sometimes arguably done that way to appeal to HS audiences even if they're not actually that young? Still SPN is kind of an odd counter-example, since the only real requirement for being a hunter is being initiated into the basics and having the guts to do it, while being smart and being old enough to pass for an official investigator certainly helps. And it's implied that with help from older hunters some of them have done it as teenagers.

You should try out Orphan Black. Definitely not high school and although a couple of the characters are cops, definitely not a procedural, nor does police work play a big role

And the *really* stupid part of high school shows (like Teen Wolf), is that all the 'high school kids' are in their mid-to-late-twenties.

Not true on Teen Wolf. Dylan Sprayberry just turned 18 last season; Khylin Rhambo is 20, and Cody Christian is 21.

But the others are 25-30, you're right. But then Teen Wolf is also a show that heavily features adult-aged characters, too. Only two of which are in law enforcement or medical fields.

The 'original' cast of TW was all over 21. I...hrmm. I can't place Sprayberry, i have no idea who that is. Well, okay, truth, i have no idea what any of the actor's names are at this point. They come, they pose, they die....

Linden Ashby frequently talk at cons about how he and JR Bourne invited O'Brosey out for drinks only to learn they weren't 21 yet. So this is patently, provably false.

This is such an odd secret.

The way this is written makes it seem as if you think supernatural hunter is a viable career choice.

Anyway, The Good Wife has adults who are lawyers. Scandal isn't my thing, but has fixers, politicians, and spies, I think. Madam Secretary has mostly politicians. There's also shows like Jane the Virgin, Nashville, and Empire.

But there are also zombie fighters, superheroes, vampires, etc. on television, too, if that's the way you want to go.

(Anonymous) 2016-04-16 06:34 am (UTC)(link)
You are living in an age where there is literally more high quality TV being produced than anyone could possibly watch and you think your only choices for adult dramas are procedurals and supernatural? Am I misunderstanding something here?!?

(Anonymous) 2016-04-16 11:12 am (UTC)(link)
You're in high school, so you're not looking on it as a post-college adult. Even if your high school years weren't the best years of your life, sometimes you think, "Damn, if only I was 17 right now." I thought it was weird as hell that people did it, and then... I turned 30.

I'm 41, and I never think "Damn, if only I was 17 now."

My life may have its problems, but if I had a job that was making me want to kill myself on a regular basis, I'd find another one. High school? Not so much.

(Anonymous) 2016-04-16 05:50 pm (UTC)(link)
the only way in which I wish I was 17 is if I could apply what little wisdom I've earned to my career and schooling choices. other than that? never.
