Thanks for clarifying this, because otherwise we wouldn't have realized that OP was merely expressing their opinion rather than stating a universal fact.

I dunno, a lot of secreteers do tend to make their dumb ass opinions seem as though it is solid fact.

nayrt - I suspect that's more a matter of interpretation. Very strong opinions that are stated very strongly still aren't fact, but a lot of people interpret it as if they are. It's as if people forget that the "I" is implied and doesn't have to be specifically stated, so:

1) I think broccoli is the worst vegetable in the world!

is the same thing as:

2) Broccoli is the worst vegetable in the world!


#2 isn't a fact, by definition. It doesn't matter that there is no "I" in the sentence; the point of view is implied and understood. Acting as if a sentence like #2 is intended to be a universal statement of fact is, at best, rather disingenuous. But mostly it's a misunderstanding to do with reading comprehension.
