I haven't read much Superman comics but from what I gather, he's a really nice alien dude guy trying to do right. Also sometimes some writers like to write him as edgy mcedgeson but this is coming from someone who doesn't read much comic books.

I wish they would explore him as someone who's really trying to be nice and trying really hard to stay decent and never breaking the no-killing code while trying to hide his identity from the world. Or something.

All-Star Superman is really good, if you never read any other Superman comic imo.

Reading the wikipedia article and yes! This sounds interesting (albeit a bit depressing at the end). I'll give it a go!

It kind of is? But the good kind of sad imo. |D

There's also a movie of it that personally I thought was pretty good? DC's movies are kind of shit, but their animated stuff tends to be pretty good.

Under the very best writers Superman is literally just a guy from Kansas with incredible powers and a desire to do the right thing. It's why he contrasts so nicely with Bruce Wayne -- he's just a middle-class country boy from a farm town, very much a boy scout with loving parents who instilled in him a sense of justice; Bruce is a rich kid from the big city who never really got over his parents being murdered.

Yeah, that's what I thought and remembered a bit.

I also kind remember Supes
(not the old one you see on superdickery.com but the most recent incarnations one) representing a more optimistic and idealistic side of superheroes, while Batman represents a more "dark" aspect of them. Making Supes a dark hero (like Batman) is like making Sponge Bob an emo: it's hilarious in theory, but ultimately misses the point of the character.

(I never thought it'd come the day I'd do essays and defend Superman but here we are...)

Batman vs. Superman should have been an amazing film tbh, all things considered, which makes me wonder why it fucked up so badly.
