The longer this primary goes, the further and further I go into Bernie or bust.

I find that for me, it's true what they say. The more I see of Hillary, the more I dislike her. I haven't heard a single thing that has made me like her better than I did before. All the good things I hear people lauding her for are the bare minimum of what I'd expect for someone who touts herself as a liberal and progressive, not something worthy of praise. I expected more when I knew less, and when I started looking into it, what I found disappointed me.

So yeah. Bernie or bust.

To clarify: Bernie or bust in the Democratic party anyway. Green is where I'd go otherwise.

I'll either vote for Bernie or Trump. Their fundamental rhetoric is similar tbh. Bring jobs back to America, tax the wealthy, fund planned parenthood, don't take sides between Israel and Palestine, require NATO countries to step up their defense budget.

As a bleeding heart liberal progressive who would never vote for Trump, I can agree that their fundamental rhetoric on some particular issues are similar, and I can completely see why someone would do that if those issues are the ones most important to them.

Yeah, we agree on some issues. I don't think it's a bad thing to admit to that.

I'm AYRT, btw.

But their moral philosophies are completely different. How do you work with that?

Re: Politics Thread

(Anonymous) 2016-04-16 12:19 am (UTC)(link)
NAYRT but the one who started the subthread.

It depends on what your priorities are. If the issues AYRT listed are their top ones, then yeah, Bernie and Trump are the only ones who have the stances anon mentioned. I don't agree, but it's not difficult to imagine.

AYRT - Let me be clear. I would really, really, really prefer to vote for Bernie. But reading the transcript of last night's dem debate, I was struck by how similar he is to Trump on some major issues. And I just can't vote for an establishment candidate at this point.

Trump is as "establishment" as it gets wtf

What.

Re: Politics Thread

(Anonymous) 2016-04-16 11:29 am (UTC)(link)
Trump is part of the corporate establishment. And Bernie is part of the congressional establishment. They're both fixtures in a broken system where each scratch the other's back and SCOTUS condones it. But they're the only two candidates who admit that system is broken and want to do something about it. I doubt they'll be able to, but wanting to is a far cry above Hillary, who is congressional establishment with corporate establishment interests and doesn't seem to see any problem with that at all.

(Anonymous) 2016-04-16 12:17 am (UTC)(link)
same tbh

AYRT

And the more I get accused of being sexist for planning to vote for Jill Stein over Hillary Clinton if it comes to it, the less I believe in the accusations of sexism in general from the Hillary side.

I wish so badly that Warren had run and taken the gender card off the table.

Yep. I would have voted for Warren in a heartbeat.

But anon, the bare minimum of someone being liberal and progressive is still SO MUCH BETTER than anything the right wing has to offer.

Bernie > Hillary to me but Hillary > any Republican.

"Bernie or Bust" is such a destructive point of view. :/
