I think there should be a romantic comedy between a telemarketer and a receptionist, because in all honesty, it can get comical.

IRL it's just annoying, but.

(Also, is it just me or are there way fewer romantic comedies these days? Is it because there doesn't seem to be a Meg Ryan for the Gen Y crowd?)

I think youth culture, if you will, is a little too cynical for rom coms right now. Especially when you consider how pretentious they were. Mostly white characters working "average" jobs yet living in fancy apartments and being able to blow off work to partake in romantic shenanigans... that's not going to go over well the way it did in 1998.

To me it was. There was romance (between Bruce/Mary-Louise as well as between Helen/Brian) and there was definitely comedy, even if parts of the movie were action/serious.

I tend to think of rom com jobs not being average so much as "romantic," like "I own a flower shop in San Francisco" or "I have a pet treat bakery in Seattle" and the men are always architects and so on.

I don't think they have done as well as previous years, so studios are just not making them.
