Honestly, while usually I would kind of side-eye somebody who ships a canonically gay character with someone from the opposite sex, I don't care in Alec's case because I do think he doesn't deserve Magnus anyway.

Magnus is awesome - I would actually say he's the best thing that's ever come out of the whole Cassandra Clare trainwreck - and he deserves to be treated with a modicum of respect. I would even argue that Alec is kind of abusive, at least in the books.

(I am not emotionally involved in the show/books in any way whatsoever.)

You could argue that if you use "abusive" with the Tumblr definition meaning "character I don't like and don't want shipped with my fave."

I don't remember nearly enough of the books to really speak on Magnus/Alec in them, but from everything I've heard people seem to agree CC wrote the pairing horribly, and the show does a much better job at handling them. There's a reason they're pretty much the show's one redeeming feature.
