I'm in the minority that likes Dean as a dom/top. Maybe it's not realistic, but I like it.

idk if it's really unrealistic to be fair. He's typically portrayed as being in a more submissive role in the sex scenes that we've seen but it's not like those relatively sparse scenes are indicative of all of his sexual preferences. It's entirely possible that he likes being dominant in the bedroom when the mood strikes him. As far as topping goes though (if by topping you just mean the person who does the penetrating), we haven't really had anything in canon to indicate how he feels about topping during sex (other than the fact that he likely "tops" the women that he's with since I don't think we've had any evidence that he's into pegging...although I'm certainly not opposed to that). A lot of people in fandom seem to equate being dominant with automatically being the penetrating partner but I find that to be very over-simplistic at best and...mildly offensive at worst considering the implications it has for women who engage in penetrative sex since it bizarrely implies that women can't be dominant during penetrative sex unless they're fucking their partner with a strap-on or something and that they're automatically submissive if they enjoy getting dicked or what-have-you. I've definitely had partners in the past who were fairly submissive in the bedroom while still enjoying doing the penetrating and vice versa.

I kind of went on a tangent there but, anyway, I think you enjoying dean as a dominant top is perfectly valid (especially the topping part since we don't have anything in canon to indicate either way on that one) because we don't know literally everything about dean's sex life. I personally enjoy him as being submissive while "topping," but I also like reading about all varieties of dean's sexcapades in fanfic.

Oh, I defininitely agree! I think we're just using different versions of the word "topping." usually in fandom, I see it used as shorthand for who is doing the penetrating while outside of fandom I generally see it used the way you are. It makes conversations about fic confusing sometimes (I actually saw it lead to a big argument a few days ago, haha)
