Since always. Fundies exist in fandoms. They're usually the same type of people that write in to networks or authors complaining LGBT characters exist or demanding they be changed to straight or removed from things entirely. I've even met a group in an old fandom that went around trying to commission artists to draw fan-art of gay characters in straight ships so they could 'flood out the gay crap'.

I've never seen this magical scenario you've described in any fandom. It's always bullshit like "I was never gay after all LOL!" or "This girl has cured me of my horrible affliction with her boobs!".

This "magical scenario" is exactly the one being described in the secret, the ones the blog target most often. Again, literally every person featured on said blog has acknowledged liking Magnus/Alec, it's often just a case of those reader-insert fics being written where the reader happens to be female. Or Clary.Alec, which people mainly seem to like because of the actors rather than any belief that the canon characters belong together.
