But the secret wasn't talking about the myriad gross shit in fiction on the M/F side, so I personally just noted that I think this shit is disgusting and the girls who do it get a HUGE fucking stink-eye from me because it's gross. Yes, I am kinkshaming, for shame, for shame. But everyone pointing out that there is far less fictional "shipping" of male characters who literally mutilate and torture their female victims isn't the same as condoning when it does happen in fandom.
But yeah, as someone who ships both slash and het (and femslash), I see this trope far more often in slash/yaoi. Brutal enemies are regularly made into butt buddies, when in canon one is disemboweling the other like gutting a fish. Manipulative, psychotic bastard who burns someone to death while choking them and also tries to kill the master of a loyal warrior with a bomb? Better made "hot" dubcon (and somehow it's always dubcon, as if the character just finally consents to being fucked by a guy who he'd love to wear his intestines as a belt and hates with every fiber of his being) doujinshi or fanfic! Creepy torture psycho wants to cut off that guy's head and make out with him? Omg soooooooooooooooooooo cuuuuute.
Seriously, one can actually comment on these disturbing trends while not condoning the M/F shit that goes on. And I think actively "shipping" something (insisting there is a relationship there, even implying it's not totally one-sided on the serial rapist/killer's end) is different from the existence of guro and rape oneshots. I see fa, far less actual "shipping" and investment in M/F tortureporn ships. This doesn't mean one is "worse" than the other, like I said above, both are abhorrent to me, but we can talk about the trends in slash fandom without dragging out every single instance of how M/F stuff is bad too.
I find it so disingenuous and annoying when people break out the "leave the little girls alone!!" line when someone dares critique slash fandom though. Can we not for once?
