but tumblr tends to slap a hijab on every muslim women interpretation

yeah, that kind of confuses me. I grew up in an area with a high muslim population and only had a handful of friends growing up who wore a hijab because most of them said their families considered wearing one to be old fashioned and non-progressive (I'm not saying I endorse or reject that interpretation; it's just a common explanation that I heard from people)
