WELL the fact is that unfortunately, the Internet is a text-based medium and so we lose all information based on tone and expression. So, if you want to communicate SARcasm, FOR example,,, you have to...somehow...play around with punctuation and capitalization in order to communicate nuance. a m a z i n g. It is a Very Important Innovation, although actually the capitalization of things that are Very Important is a throwback. Emily Dickinson and ee cummings don't know how to English either?? woah

Come on, don't act like people aren't able to communicate perfectly fine without typing like that!

Nayrt

This kind of cultural repurposing of language has always happened with spoken language though. Isn't it cool to see how it's happening with written language now that it's such an integral part of how subcultures communicate??
As long as people can make themselves understood when they need to, and I'm sure these people can, I just think it's awesome. Sorry.

Maximal Communication! USE ALL TOOLS AVAILABLE TO YOU TO COMMUNICATE! THERE IS NO UPPER LIMIT ON THE CHANNELS OF COMMUNICATION!

Written text has been a mode of communication for centuries. How do you think people managed to convey emotion and tone before tumblr speak was invented?

I will be honest, every quirk you typed out in this comment read as extraneous to me and did not contribute at all to my understanding of the text, beyond throwing in some artificial delays. Like all those ellipses? I don't even know what they're supposed to convey, or those three commas.
And you could have written "amazing!" and gotten the exact same nuance you seem to have been going for with "a m a z i n g".
As for Very Important Innovation, I think it's more effective as either "Very Important innovation", or "very important Innovation". You put so much emphasis on everything that we lose the focus of the sentence. I do think that random capitalization is less obnoxious than some of the other things.

tl;dr it is possible to convey plenty of nuance through irregular typing without typing like a fucking idiot and going full tumblr.
