It's not whitewashing in this case. Zoe is wearing blackface. And yes, before you start, that's a thing.
You clearly know nothing about Nina Simone and the colorism she experienced due to being a darker shade of black. It's why her family is so upset about this movie.
There are so many big name actresses with more charisma who would have been better for this role (for example Viola Davis), but the makers of this movie (who are white btw and have given plenty problematic interviews re: this movie) thought Zoe would be a better pull for a white audience. Cut the BS about taking what you can get, as if white people are doing POC a favor.
Here, let me put this in words you'll understand: no black person is happy with this movie.

Please educate yourself you dumb fuck.
