I didn't think they utilized Chewie very well. He didn't seem to have the personality that I remembered. The character felt old, but also like some of what he was doing was by-the-numbers. Like, when Finn was trying to heal him, that felt like "we need that moment where Chewie threatens someone" and it felt weird (especially as beyond that, he felt like he was old).

And there didn't seem to be any weight to losing Han. Other than shooting Kylo, there's nothing really. And there's nothing to suggest history between Kylo and Chewie, which I would find interesting. And I didn't feel anything about what Chewie thought of Han going back to smuggling or breaking up/reuniting with Leia. He was just kind of there. But I did like some of the banter that Han had with Chewie. I guess, overall, I was just a bit disappointed. It will be interesting to see what they do with him in the next movie. I feel like he might be side-lined because Han's gone now though. :(

I can sympathize with the lack of weight to Han's death, it felt rushed and I think the reason it felt rushed was because there were no real "quiet scenes" with Han considering what had happened to him or to Ben in the lead up. We got one scene with him and Leia, but that was too brief and too much in the middle of other stuff. Pacing a film has really become a lost artform. With Obi Wan we had been really given a feel for what he meant to Luke, to Han, to Vader, and even to Artoo the droid delivery bot, all long before he and Vader finally came face to face.

Plus Harrison Ford's goofy face as he tried to pretend he was stabbed and not thinking about his pay check, that was ill judged.

I didn't really see that. I thought Ford did a good job with the death. He also sold me with the way he looked at Kylo when Kylo was kidnapping the unconscious Rey. I didn't have problems with Ford or Han in the movie.

I felt the same way. I also felt that most of Han and Leia's interactions were fairly superficial and not nearly as substantial as I expected judging from the fan reactions.

Chewie isn't single, he's married and has his own kids. Did you not watch the Star Wars Holiday Special which introduced his family? It also introduced us to Luke during the time he was living as a girl to see if he wanted to transition (well that is the only explanation I can come up with for that makeup and the cute-lesbian haircut/wig).

Uh... I forget what my point was. Oh, yeah. Chewie is a deadbeat dad and husband. There. HTH

didn't Mark Hamill say recently that Luke could've been gay/bi or something. (not he was, just that he could've been)

but anyway Chewie being a deadbeat dad definitely makes him that sad "bros before hos" asshole. Then again, Han eventually left Leia, too, so.

The makeup and hair cut on Mark was done because he had just suffered a car crash that messed up his face, so they tried to cover up all the fresh damage. Like, the Christmas special was done right after. The effects of that crash lasted well into ESB too.

He crashed landing on Hoth. Then it took him a while to get proper medical attention and then heal up.
