Let's talk about The Sims!

(Anonymous) 2016-04-18 10:59 pm (UTC)(link)
Whether you jumped with open arms into Sims 4, enjoy the open world of Sims 3, still get plenty of entertainment out of Sims 2 or just can't get enough of the original Goth family of The Sims, this is the thread to talk about it. Tell us about your game, ask questions and debate the finer points of Simlish to English translation or anything else that catches your imagination in this thread.

I still stick with Sims 2 because I think the characters look the most real and the best. Mostly I just create fandom characters.

That's what I do, too. It feels less micro-managey to me, and I actually like that I can go to a community lot to replenish my mood bars and then come home and it's the same time it was when I left. Sure, it's not real life-like, but it's a GAME.

A Sims 2 Question (and Star Trek update)

(Anonymous) 2016-04-18 11:05 pm (UTC)(link)
Quick question: If a single parent dies, can I save and exit the house after their dead but before the social worker gets there and then move their kid to another house (the one with their other parent), or will that some how bork my game? I'd really rather not have to move them both out and into a new house and then move the other parent out again or move the absent parent into the current house and then move them and the kid back into the other house.

In related news: Worf's about to be a daddy, but he doesn't know. And K'Ehleyr also is very attracted to Riker, which could get awkward.

In other news: Wesley Crusher went to college and is best friends with Percy Weasley, Picard and Beverly have fallen in love and gotten married. Soon they'll be turning the Enterprise over to Riker and moving into their own little cottage. Where there might be babies.

Riker and Troi are in love but not all that interested in doing anything about it, and it's only a matter of time before Data is either abducted by aliens or reaches the robotics badge required to make a Servo droid so he can have a Lal. I'm rooting for the aliens, though. Then he and BFF Geordie could raise a little alien baby together.

I love playing in my Sims 3 fandom neighbourhoods. I have placed characters from tons of different fandoms together, where the only ones with pre-existing relationships are my Game of Thrones sims, as I originally planned to do a GoT only neighbourhood.

It's so fun to see all the different ships that form without me interfering at all (I always start a legacy with one sim who has to marry an NPC the first gen, then the second gen can get together with the second gen fandom kids. It's always cool to look up the family tree a couple of generations in).

The oddest ship I can think of at is Loki (Marvel) and Sakura (Naruto) who gets together just about every time I start over. They always end up with lots of pink haired kids.

So, you don't actually have any say in or watch those other relationships flourish? You just check in and see things have happened? (Sims 2 player here, and I'm afraid I just don't understand how Sims 3 works outside of just having a legacy house.)

I have a mod called Nraas story progression that make sure that, well, the story progresses.

It also gives me notifications on what's going on in the neighbourhood, like who gets together, who had a baby (and whether it was an accident or planned), who died, who doesn't pay child support (no one it seems by the rate I get them), who got promoted and so on. So I get to see what goes on in their lIves from a far, which suits me just fine.

Sims 2 is my favorite. I don't like how 3 lets you only play one family at a time (except it does make it interesting that you can the women pregnant without playing them, which is how one of my Sims fathered 20 children and only actually met one of them)

I goddamn love the Sims. I have since I was a kid. I miss TS3's style a LOT, but there's a lot about 4 I enjoy. A happy medium between the two would be nice but alas.

I mostly play Sims 3, but I'm just now getting my CC in order so I can start to play 4 more seriously instead of my test runs. With 3, I like the NRAAS Story Progression mod so that I can see how all of my various fandom characters interact and form relationships without having to decide myself who will be with whom. I also get to see lots of fun children that way. For Sims 4, I'm going the Sims 2 route and I'm only going to play one household at a time. I am hoping that there will be some characters pre-made that I can use, because that took forever in Sims 3 to make characters I wanted.

I like the personality system of Sims 3 better than the one in Sims 4. But part of that is just because there is more variety, so I'm hoping as more expansions are added, more traits will be as well. I still am not sold on the moods aspect of it. I don't like having to try to force my sims to be in particular moods. I do love the multitasking, though.

Even if I end up loving Sims 4, I definitely won't give up Sims 3. I want to see what will happen in future generations in my current game, plus I have ideas for several other games I want to do. Like the apocalypse challenge.

I've only played it a few times, but one time I made a character named Mulan and drowned her in a pool.

What's the difference between sims 3 and 4?

Also, wasn't there a user on here who used to post Sims screencaps all the time?

I was thinking of starting this again.

I really wanna finish a legacy challenge but my game always gets slow or I get bored by Gen 3 or so.

I also want to read a good legacy challenge but I've gone through and re-read all the old ones I used to follow.

I miss capslock_sims...

I still play Sims 2 (for the expansions) and Sims 3 (for the amaaaazing variety of user-created content/mods).

I recently started playing Sims 4, and I'm probably in the minority but I love how cartoonish the sims look.
However, the lack of mods is a little discouraging. (The only good one that comes to mind is the twerking mod.)
Many of my friends told me they kinda quit doing mods because the system for Sims 4 is different and they don't have the time or energy to learn it.
So I've been focusing on building houses (sooo much more fun/easier than previous games) and turns out I really, really enjoy it. Reminds me of Sims 1 because building houses/buying furniture in that game was essential. In the later games it kinda took a backseat. I love murdering sims
I also like being able to modify the bodies. It's nice. Creating fandom characters is much easier/more accurate.
Also, the game runs smoother than previous games and even my crappy computer can run it with ease.
So far the EPs have been furniture focused and, even tho I miss Sims 2 EPs, I can always play S2 if S4 EPs aren't satisfying, y'know?

I would recommend these EPs btw:

Get to Work
Get Together
Outdoor Retreat (if you wanna go camping, collect insects, or just have the sudden need to create a sims horror story akin to Sleepaway Camp)
Spa Day (if you like... spa stuff)
Perfect Patio (if you like building stuff/furniture)
Romantic Garden Stuff (if you like... garden... stuff)

BUT I wouldn't pay the full price for any of them, so see if you can score them in a sale or something.
