and how they have essentially switched places in terms of popularity.

But....they haven't. Not at all. Sure, Felicity gets more hate these days than she used to, and Laurel doesn't get as nearly as much as she used to. But to say they've switched places....not hardly. Felicity is still by far the most popular character in the fandom, maybe only next to Oliver, and sometimes I wonder about that. Whereas I don't see as much Laurel hate as I used to, but that's mainly because Laurel's generally not doing much. Whenever she has a storyline that brings her to the forefront, such as Sara's resurrection, the hate comes out again.

Right now, due to the events of the last episode, all the Laurel fans are out and upset, and they're blaming it all on Felicity/Olicity, which may make it seem like the balance has shifted. But it really hasn't.
