That's your right, of course, but it probably has zero to do with his writing.

What did he do?

Eh, if I refused to read all books by asshole writers, I'd have very little good stuff to read.

But yeah, I know how it feels, sometimes a certain writer's douchery just hits too personal a spot and can taint all his writing for a certain person.

Kinda reminds me of my dad. He refused to eat McDonald's food because Ray Kroc was a big Richard Nixon supporter.

Kroc was a straight-up asshole: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=dvj4svKcjl0

Refusing to eat McD's, no matter the reasoning, is a good move.

Yeah, the fries sucked the last time I was there...

Come on OP, deets.

Basically what he wanted from her was arm candy, and resented that she pursued a career of her own. She suffered from undiagnosed endometriosis for years, and he complained about not being able to have sex as often as he wanted.

Though I have to agree with the above comment about avoiding asshole writers leading to a lack of reading material, and though there is not a drop of truth or substance to any reality show (and if I keep saying it maybe someone will finally believe me), I still find her charming. I might even read her new memoir since it just came in at my local library.

A few of my favorite authors were well-known assholes. They're all dead now, so maybe I'd feel weird reading their stuff if they were alive. That's why I rarely follow my favorite living authors.

Padma is gorgeous eye candy, but her smug drunken ass is the worst part of Top Chef for me (not that she deserved to be treated badly). Season 1 for the win!

Jezebel. No need to read further. Bunch of histrionic angry babies.

Doesn't make what they said (or rather, quoted from elsewhere) untrue, though. The dirt comes from Lakshmi herself.

(Anonymous) 2016-04-20 11:48 pm (UTC)(link)
"But eventually, Lakshmi’s endometriosis started to affect their physical relationship. From the New York Times:

The struggles of dealing with it — she had extensive surgery — upended their sex life and contributed to the demise of their marriage, she writes. Ms. Lakshmi said Mr. Rushdie at one point called her “a bad investment” and was insensitive to her medical condition even as she tried to recuperate."

(Anonymous) 2016-04-21 12:21 am (UTC)(link)
"Despite those cruel words, the pair are now friends post-divorce, and Rushdie supports his ex-wife’s new book, telling her, “You have the right to tell your side of the story as you see it.”"

it does sound like an asshole thing to say and be resentful over, but they clearly went into the relationship knowing that she was young, hot and talented and that he was well-connected, less good looking and talented, so...

I had no idea they had been married!

He was a douche to my mother at a conference once, so I dislike him for that, too. He was the guest speaker and threw a tantrum because he wasn't sitting at the head of the table at the formal dinner. My mother, whose university was hosting, was sitting there, and he shoved her aside as she went to sit down and took her chair. She was gracious about the whole thing, but ended up with arm bruising.
