If you look at Dragon Age, it's damned if-you-do-damned-if-you-don't.

If you give companions romance options distinct sexualities, some people will be disappointed.

If you make them "playersexual", people will complain how that's unrealistic, and
fanservic-y

I never understood people whining about a character being playersexual. Like, romance options in video games rarely talk about their sexuality and if you don't play the same sex option, it might just as well not exist. It's not that much of a strain on someone's brain to headcanon the characters straight for their own playthrough, so I don't understand why people are so opposed to playersexual characters - it really doesn't change the characters themselves.

I think I prefer player-sexual too, just for the experience (though I rather liked Zevran being openly into anyone), but logistically, yeah.

People just itch at everything, really. Someone's always going to be upset.
