I remember some female fans back in the day getting bent out of shape at the suggestion/hope for Garrus to be a same-sex romance. Like, uh, you're not playing a M!Shepard, so why would that affect you? I think they were worried about M!Shep/Garrus fan art overtaking the F!Shep/Garrus stuff they could insert themselves into, I guess...? I don't know, BioWare fandoms are strange.

(That reminds me of a funny review I got for a pretty crappy-in-hindsight fan fic I wrote back in the day, but that's for another time/place)

wait... I'm a female fan and I always play male characters for the yaoi. likewise my straight brother always plays female options for the lesbians. I'm pretty sure a fan's gender has nothing to do with what character they play.

More or less talking about the female gamers/fans who strictly played F!Shepard and romanced Garrus (gah, long day... Sorry). Not sure what it was like elsewhere, but there was that sentiment in the LJ community back in the day.

And fwiw, I myself ended up playing a M!Shepard predominantly, so you're right on that last point.

Ehhh I get what you're saying but I still don't agree, it's okay and completely understandable to want a certain character to be bisexual even if you plan on romancing them straight. I mean it still affects that character, and if you're a fan of that character, it's still "relevant" to you what kind of person they are.
