Totally. They both come from similar backgrounds, and Goku is actually a really chill, friendly guy. So is Superman. And both protect Earth because they love it, and both take on the role of hero, because they feel it's the right thing to do.

In such a scenario, I think Goku would want to see how strong Superman is, and afterwards, would get all excited that he's as strong as him (if not a little more). Then he'd want to train and spar with Superman just for fun. Supes would totally humor him, haha, because why not.

I'd pay good money to see this scenerio turned into a movie.

Lmfao this is exactly why I hate these "who would win!?" circlejerks. Have you seen the subreddit for it? Holy shit they're so fucking INVESTED.

As a fan of One Punch Man who didn't even really know this was a thing beyond some idle fan musings before this, it's been especially taxing. Goku vs. Saitama is the new Goku vs. Superman. All the weird gory fanart of one of them taking the other out gruesomely is so over the top and OOC too. Saitama is just....way too uninterested in that kind of shit, plus he'd look at Goku like another superhero in all likelihood. He's more interested in catching the next sale then he is in proving who could kill who even if they needed to rip apart the fabric of the universe in order to do it.

Speaking of, there's a Vegeta vs. Saitama comic strip that is my only accepted headcanon for how these things would really go:

The amount of butthurt "no limits fallacy!" and "feats only!" squawking drives me insane with characters like this. They're forgetting the actual personalities of these characters in their urge to stroke their "who beats who?" boner. Not to mention in the case of Saitama, his premise literally needs you to buy into the joke his character was built around.

Don't get me started on Death Battle. It's not the series itself that makes my eye twitch, it's the fanbase. And even going back to ComicBoard's Battle Board (and CBR's battle board), people were balls-deep invested in this stuff. Why, I have no Earthly idea.

And yeah, I've noticed One Punch Man being the new "standard" for comic/manga battles. I haven't seen OPM yet myself, but what I do know of Saitama, yeah, he probably wouldn't give a crap about wanting to fight someone like Superman, Hulk, or whoever.

And YES. They do forget personalities. The funny thing is that, realistically speaking, the majority of shonen/shoujo heroes and cape comic heroes would probably get along (if not be on good terms) fairly well. That's exactly why the Goku vs. Superman wankbait baffles me to no end.

Yeah, the newest iteration of all this is the /r/WhoWouldWin subreddit. It's filled with the same overly invested, holier-than-thou asshats who somehow believe that being a massive fantard of the "stronger" character makes them a cool person. I swear to god half the time these dudes sound like kids in the schoolyard. "My dad could totally kick your dad's ass!" "Nuh-uh, my dad's a cop, he carries a gun!" "Well my dad knows martial arts and he could kick the gun out of your dad's hands!" repeat until recess ends.

Except now instead of massively OP dads who are superheroes in their sons' eyes, it's fictional superheroes who nerdy adults care about enough to emotionally invest themselves in a completely non-canon interpretation of a fictional, never-going-to-happen battle. It's literally "My Dad Is Cooler Than Your Dad" with added superpowers and/or magic.

One Punch Man is awesome, don't let the stupid "SAITAMA VERSUS EVERY OVERPOWERED CHARACTER EVER" discussions dissuade you. If you like shounen series, it's impossible not to enjoy the affectionate skewering. Saitama is such a fun character, and the uber-serious, completely sincere Genos is the perfect foil for him. It's easy to see why they're becoming a classic duo in their own right in the anime fandom sphere.

Yeah, having Saitama fight anyone doesn't mean much unless you buy into the mechanics of the One Punch Man universe. Saitama was so obsessed with being a hero who could "defeat anyone" that he broke his limiter and has essentially become massively overpowered without quantifiable limits all for sake of the plot (and he's one of the best intentionally OP characters I've come across in a long time).

And yes, they absolutely forget the personalities of these guys. :/ They're all on the side of good, so why isn't it entertaining to think of them all teaming up instead of trying to rip each other apart?

Also, is it terrible that when I see pictures like the ones I linked below I just picture some dude drawing it with one hand an furiously jerking off with the other? The smug "my dude is the better dude because he's stronger" vibe is just so strong in them, no matter who is the imaginary "victor" (which I included both for fairness' sake).

(There's some gore for anyone who doesn't want to look.)

(Okay I tried t find another "Saitama gets beaten" for an even number of pictures, at least I tried to find one didn't look like a furiously masturbating 14 year old boy who just picked up a pencil yesterday drew it but going through these images is giving me a massive fandumb induced migraine. :P)
