So, I'm going to be in Boston in June for four days.

It's for a conference, so I don't know how long I'll have for free time, but what kinds of things are available to do in Boston? I want to have some things in my pocket to research once I have a better idea of my schedule. :D

The Duck Tours and the Science Museum are pretty fun!

I hope I have time to stop by one of the museums; I've heard that the ones on the East Coast tend to be pretty hella.

Oh if you are into art, I LOVE Philadelphia's museums! I'm slowly making my way through NYC's museums, there's just so many!

If you have time, I know there are walking tour apps, I did one in Philly that was really fun.

The Science Museum is my favorite museum in Boston. If you only have time for one, You should do that one. I had a membership when I lived in Boston because it was just a fun place to go and there was always something new to explore.

Do you like aquariums? If so, I can not rec the Boston aquarium highly enough. I've been to many, many places but that one is one of the most impressive ever.

Plus, they have a tank where you can pet rays! They love it! They swim right into your hand! I could have stayed there petting them for hours.

YES. YES I DO.

I really hope I have time! |D

The Boston aquarium is great. I love it all. Though my favorite is always the penguins down on the first floor. I usually spend most of my time there. They are so adorable.

The only thing with the Boston aquarium is how crowded it gets. I had a membership for a while, which was nice because they had some member only and even adult only events.

Oh god I love that fucking thing. i had to be reminded there was other stuff to do, I would have probably stayed there for hours. It was one of the single most relaxing things I have ever done in my life.

[personal profile] herpymcderp 2016-04-21 11:02 pm (UTC)(link)
There was this one little ray bro who kept coming back around looking for my hand. It was so goddamn cute. He'd miss other people's hands and speed up to push his back as hard as possible into my palm.

I didn't want to leave, truly. If I lived anywhere near there I'd apply for a job there post haste.

I liked the Museum of Fine Arts.
loracarol: (THAT SMILE OKAY)

[personal profile] loracarol 2016-04-20 11:51 pm (UTC)(link)
Ooh, I'll keep it in mind, thank you! :D

Seconding that recommendation. They have some pretty cool exhibits from time to time (at least the last time I went...I think it was paintings from the Civil War and photographs from that time....might have been a different museum?)

The Museum of Fine Arts is always my first recommendation!

This time of year the Common, Garden, and swan boat rides (to be delightfully "tourist-y") are always worth your time.

My favorite bar in Boston is Jacob Wirth's. Go on a Friday for the best time, and be ready to sing! And eat corn bread and drink beer.

The Old State House is a tiny but wonderful museum. And it's literally the pre-revolution State House--royal crest preserved! Likewise the Old North Church. Speaking of which, the North End is a very extremely delicious place to spend a spring afternoon!

We've also got a bitchin' aquarium.

Thanks for all the recs! I don't know how much time I'll have; it's a conference after all, but I'm hoping that I'll have enough to hit up some of those places!

I like to give a wide range!!

And enjoy!! Boston is a gorgeous city and I miss it every day <3

I absolutely LOVED the haunted Boston tour. This one:

So much fun. Our tour guide was the bald guy that's on the left part of the website landing page.

Ooh, that sounds too spooky for me to do by myself lol. I'm also a weenie lmao. Maybe if I can rope someone into doing it with me?

(Anonymous) 2016-04-21 02:12 pm (UTC)(link)
It's really not that spooky, it's more funny. Plus it's an evening activity, which is nice when you're stuck in a conference all day.

Hell yeah!

There's a lot of historical things to do, like walk the Freedom Trail, see old graveyards, check out important old buildings that are still standing - just watch out for tourist traps, like Union Oyster House. Way too expensive and the chowdah's nothing to write home about. Fenway's also cool to see, it's insane during a game. Not sure about their schedule, but you could go to a Red Sox game. The Common is gorgeous in the summer, too.

The Museum of Science is great, and there are two great art museums I've been to, the Museum of Fine Art and the Isabella Gardner Museum. The MOFA has better exhibits, and the Isabella is neat, as it was once a house that eventually filled up with art (and then had some of it stolen in a heist, still unsolved after two decades).

I'll be a downer and not recommend the aquarium, is it underwhelming and that part of town is immensely crowded during the summer.

Lot of good restaurants and shopping downtown, some good concert venues as well like the Middle East and the Paradise Club.

[personal profile] loracarol 2016-04-21 04:52 am (UTC)(link)
See, on one hand, I'm a big fan of the chowders on our end, so it makes sense not to have to buy new stuff. On the flip side, I might want to try it, to see the differences. |D

I don't know if I'll have time for a whole game, unfortunately, but I'll keep that in min.

The museum of science looks neat! I hope I have time.

That's too bad about the aquarium. I might risk it though lol, depending on how much time I have. |D

Thanks. :D

Thank you! I'll add it to the list. :D

The USS Constitution. A bloody great Age of Sail frigate.
