help :(

Cat got out and managed instantly to catch a baby bunny - we have a huge overpopulation of them in town and it's bunny season. Even though it's probably not a bad thing, it's actually probably a good thing if he catches and kills one, I ran out and made him put the poor thing down, and caught him and threw him back in the house.

But now I don't know what to do about the bunny. The poor thing squeaked and writhed around and can't seem to run away, it sort of staggered under the shelter of a large pine tree so I hope it feels more "secure". But I'm left with this awful feeling of wondering if it is slowly dying, and if it would've been better to let the cat finish it off. I don't want it to die, and I've been keeping an eye on it through the window - it seems to be resting, but that could mean dying and idk I hate this I hate nature

I put a bunch of lettuce under the tree near it and have left it alone and kept distance now but idk. I heard that cats tend to kill by "strangling" the prey with that neck grip, what is bunny's chance of survival :(

They don't strangle, they neck-snap. Can't tell you much about it from this description. Sorry. If you can't get it to a clinic or put it out of its misery, stop staring at it. Torturing yourself won't make it better or hasten death.

Sorry you're experiencing this, though. But cats are hunters.

You could try to catch it. If you can by hand, it's probably hurt or too young to take care of itself.

You could take it to a vet and adopt it, if it's worth your money.

Adopt it, so if it survives it has to live face to face with the thing that mauled it?

There might be a place in your area that takes care of wild animals. Try Googling some keywords like "injured wild rabbit" or "wild animal shelter" along with your town or county name. If there is one, they'll probably ask you to find a box to put the rabbit in and take it to them. I don't know if a regular animal shelter would take it, but I don't think it would hurt to check if there isn't a place for wild animals.

If neither of those works, it's probably best to leave it where it is and check on it occasionally. If you want to keep feeding it, pick some grass and put it near the rabbit; that's what they eat mostly. Romaine lettuce is also good, but iceberg lettuce is bad, and carrots are okay but only in small bits at a time. From there it'll know what to do for itself best, I think.

Bunny is officially old enough to look after itself and interaction with you will stress it out more. Back off and give it some space, it may recover
