Do you really think you made him do something he wouldn't have ended doing anyway?

MTE. He wrote it, not you, OP.

this is why writers shouldn't go to fans of their work for advice

(Anonymous) 2016-04-21 11:40 pm (UTC)(link)
You didn't make him do anything. You gave him your opinion.

Haters are gonna hate, but that's pretty cool in my book.

On one hand, you said he wasn't sure what to do with the character, and I feel like you really need to know your stuff before attempting a trans character.
On the other hand, wtf OP. He confided in you and you used that position to your advantage. I'm assuming he was uncomfortable with your conviction since previously you'd only tried to assist him - and this is the only time you went out of your way to sway his opinion. Trust me, he noticed. And no, nobody was holding a gun to his head and he can make his own decisions, but he was looking for advice, and made a decision based on that.
If there's ever a next time, be better; if you can't give unbiased advice, the least you could do is be honest.

Well, you were right on what would've been more interesting!

I have to say, considering I'm really dang tired of "You're slightly outside the gender binary. YOU MUST BE TRANS AND NOT KNOW IT." I am kind of glad for it. Especially since, I dunno, the idea of 'fixing' the gay relationship by making it het just doesn't sit well with me. I don't usually see it the other way, where a gay person is excited that someone they liked but wasn't attracted to is transitioning and now they have pantsfeelings for them.
