the thing about art is you can change things so they're not realistic if you want to

art rules are made to be broken

(Anonymous) 2016-04-21 11:23 pm (UTC)(link)
sure, but there has to be some logic behind it

like you can break anatomy for a better sense of motion, but doing it because you lack the knowledge doesn't look good

No. Not when it means one person is sitting on a different plane of existence than the bench they're meant to be on, and another has sprouted a leg out of her rib cage.

Then it's just shitty.

art rules are made to be broken

That only works when you have done a lot of practice and research, no when you want to throw the "ITS JUST MY STYLE!" card.

spoken like a shitty artist

(Anonymous) 2016-04-22 12:24 am (UTC)(link)
how so? arent the artists that are considered great the ones who broke art rules

(Anonymous) 2016-04-22 02:14 am (UTC)(link)

Oh my god study any art history. Pollock. Picasso. Fucking Monet was breaking rules and was famously trashed by critics. The names of art movements Impressionism and Fauvism were taken from negative reviews. Art is one long history of people breaking rules.

You don't have to like any type of art but stop acting like there is a right way and a wrong way.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHA

Except Picasso knew the rules before he broke them. Check out his art from when he was 15. It's even taught that you can break the rules, but know them first, as intimately as you can because they don't teach you that shit for nothing.

Also, most of those artists didn't become popular until after they died.

Pollock and Picasso were popular before they died. That is most of the artists I listed.

I am not saying these fan artists are on level with them. They're fan artists, of course they aren't. I was merely annoyed by the implication that art isn't a history of breaking rules and conventions. Take an art history class.

I admit I skimmed that part.

Already did and am and guess what? The only art in history I even care about is Renaissance, Baroque and Rococo, so why would I care about the history of art I don't care about and find ugly?

And you can be annoyed by it all you want, if it's ugly, people usually don't like it, no matter how rebellious the artist wants to be. And even then, the people breaking the rules at least have a clue as to why they're doing it beyond claiming broken anatomy as their "style."

lmaoooo

I hope you don't intend to make it in the art world if you only respect 3 styles. No matter how ugly you find it, the history of art is important. I think medieval art is the ugliest shit I've seen and Matisse did hideous work - but I still respect and care about their places in art history. As you said to another user below - don't even bother.

[personal profile] sachiko_san 2016-04-22 08:41 pm (UTC)(link)
Joke's on you, I don't plan on making it in the art world. Also what I said was hyperbole. Of course I like other styles though (like medieval because at least they tried and there's some hilarious shit there), those just happen to be my favorite out of classical art. If I don't like it, I don't have to respect it, but I don't go out of my why to shit on things unless they're brought up.

I'm not getting butthurt about people shitting on bad art though?
