And that makes it okay to not treat fat people like human beings? Because making people miserable and making them hate themselves totally works to make them lose weight, right? Only it generally does the oppsoite.

A joke at your expanse is not a human rights violation. I know distances seem farther away to fat people but you need to gain some perspective.

Nah, it's not a human rights violation. Though there is very real discrimination (I've heard employers say they would not hire a fat person, for example).

Some jokes are funny, but some things just contribute to a culture of bullying.

A joke isn't, but sub-par medical treatment is.

And it's not just fat people who suffer in that regard. Plenty of skinny people go unscreened and untreated for diabetes and heart disease because those conditions are considered a "fat" problem.

This. My endometriosis was only recently diagnosed because my previous doctor insisted that all my health issues (including the asthma I've had since I was 5 and skinny) were weight related and that she wouldn't look into anything or get me tested for anything until I lost some weight. And that the only reason I had such severe pain was because of my weight. And I couldn't change doctors because it was through my school. And previous doctors I'd gone to for the same pain also dismissed it and only suggested losing weight.

So turns out, no, I have an actual health issue that I could have had surgery for years before if someone had just taken the time to listen to me and actually look into it.

Jokes do not "not treating like human beings" make.

No, but they are a whole part of our culture that thinks that fat people are good for nothing but being the butt of jokes and should not be taken seriously. Jokes on their own aren't, but the fact that fat people are considered one of the few acceptable targets and the fact that jokes are all part of the whole culture that treats fat people badly means you can't just consider jokes on their own. They are part of a bigger thing which does treat fat people as if they aren't human.

"even you"

I hate these sorts of comments. "I suffer from x, and since I think it is ok you should too"
