I disagree. Humans like things that are aesthetically pleasing. That is why we are attracted to certain body image and pretty (+symmetrical) faces.

This love of ugly stuff just reeks of tumblr wanting everybody to not care about their weight or appearance, despite it's human nature to be attracted to pretty things.

This sounds like mra bullshit tbh

Like I know that's not the context but they say things like this and it's generally sort if a...weird thing to say. Beauty is subjective. Tastes do vary. It's ok to like something that's not conventionally attractive. Human nature is not as neatly characterized and simplistic as that. Sounds like evo psych bs.

Actually there is more evidence mounting that the symmetry thing is untrue. Its more about what kind of features people are exposed to in their lives (ie a baby will be more drawn to its mother's face then a perfectly symmetrical one.)

Not relevant but whatever. Some info for you trolls out there.

Artists have been trying to break the notion of prettiness since before tumblr.

Controversies over 'ugly art' and 'what counts as art' are pretty damn old but also a huge basis of the modern art movement. Duchamp's urinal ring any bells?
