That makes sense. I think it's irresponsible and super ignorant at best, but I do understand the basic psychology of why the anti-vax movement has such steam - people are desperate for answers and a professional-looking "study" sets up a fine scapegoat.

Basically it's like this: autistic babies tend to look rather normal up to a point, so by the time parents figure out something is wrong, the kids might be 2-4 years old. But people still have thing idea "but he was normal when I held him in my arms after birth" (he wasn't, it's just hard to tell that young)...so they eternally keep looking for causes that "fucked up" their perfect baby - and "sorry, you drew a short straw in the genetic lottery" is not an acceptable answer.

Dads particularly, ime. Just can't accept that their precious cock and balls produced a duffer (in their eyes).

Yep, exactly. Symptoms of autism often show up around the time a whole bunch of routine vaccines are administered iirc.
