Irrationally annoyed...

(Anonymous) 2016-04-22 01:23 am (UTC)(link)
I can't help but be irritated when I recommend something to my friends and they say they will check it but don't. But then once the thing I recommended gets popular, they're into it. I guess I'm upset because we end up being into the same thing at different times and I just wished I had someone to talk to since I'm pretty nervous about making friends online.

TBH I am so, so far past the point in my life where I expect anyone to ever check out anything that I recommend, whatever the circumstances.

The thing is I only recommend things that I know the person would really enjoy. I wish I can be at the point you are though. If you have any pointers that would be nice.

I don't have any pointers! It's not like I decided to be that way. It's just the result of years and years and years of people never checking out anything that I recommend.

It takes me years to get to some stuff. I didn't watch the last airbender until 2012. It's nothing personal.

I rarely follow recs. I want to discover things on my own, and I think that's fairly common.

But I feel your pain in terms of not having anyone to share fannish things with.

This happens to me all the time. LOL I recall being super annoyed that my friends never watched Lost, but got into it after the show ended. I was mostly annoyed that they got into the show for reasons that had little to do with me constantly recommending it.

I get this, it can feel kind of lonely, but you can't control other people's reactions to anything you do or say. Even if they promised a thousand times over. You just gotta find someone else to fangirl/fanboy with despite your nervousness, and then consider it a bonus when your friends finally do come onboard.

as someone who gets rec'd things, it's not that I don't trust my friends judgement... it's usually just that i have other things on my mind so i can take a really really long time to get around to something

like i haven't watch jessica jones yet even though i've been meaning to since it came out

... but if your friend is into it now, what's stopping you from getting back into that fandom again? are your interests -that- fast-moving that you're already completely "over it?"
