Kylo/Poe is surprisingly unpopular ship however, despite the fact that Kylo did pretty much exactly the same thing to him. Maybe it's because he didn't show off his pretty curls and get all up in Poe's face, I guess, but I'd have expected the fandom to latch onto that more.

(Anonymous) 2016-04-22 11:06 pm (UTC)(link)
awww I'd totally want to read sexy BDSM Kylo/Poe torture scenes. sad there's no fandom for it.

(Anonymous) 2016-04-22 11:23 pm (UTC)(link)
Poe's a POC, so I'm not surprised it's not more popular.

[personal profile] darnaguen 2016-04-22 11:30 pm (UTC)(link)
I guess that's true. Even though it's Oscar Isaac.

(Anonymous) 2016-04-23 12:12 am (UTC)(link)
nah he's 100% white passing.

if Poe isn't a popular character in fan works, it might just be because he was hardly in the movie.

(Anonymous) 2016-04-23 12:14 am (UTC)(link)
That's nice and all, but the most popular pairing in that movie is a POC/POC one, so it's pretty clear that the TFA fandom doesn't have a problem with POC slash.

Actually I checked the AO3 last week and apparently Hux/Kylo Ren is the most popular ship now. It's a very sad world, I am sorry anon.

(Though Finn/Poe is still second place so I guess you arguments still stands.)

(Anonymous) 2016-04-23 12:55 am (UTC)(link)
kek it was, now it's been overtaken by two ugly white guys who barely interact.

TFA fandom confirmed for being just as full of shit as every other fandom.

(Anonymous) 2016-04-23 03:39 am (UTC)(link)
This would be true, if you removed the context behind the popularity shift. Poe/Finn was the most popular ship, right up until the Progressiveness Defense Squad started making the atmosphere toxic. Their concern trolling led to one author deleting a pretty standard sex pollen fic before leaving the fandom, there are at least two regular anon commenters on AO3 who act like the goddamn warning police, and Poe/Finn shippers on Tumblr alternate between being holier-than-thou about their ~pure~ ship and being absolutely vile to Reylo shippers. The fact that a lot of people jumped ship to the less-policed villain/villain ship shouldn't surprise anyone. It doesn't surprise me, and I've been a Poe/Finn shipper since the beginning.

(Anonymous) 2016-04-23 05:07 am (UTC)(link)
da

It legit makes me sad to hear this. When I jumped into the SW fandom after the release of TFA, Poe/Finn was the nicest, most welcoming part of the fandom.

This. Even disregarding the fact that people ship Kylux because they're villains, not because they're white, one of the main reasons people started shipping it a lot is because it was a really classic example of "we're already shipping the genocidal evil guys, no need for all this policing because our ship isn't wholesome in the first place".

I've been shipping them from the start when it was still a tiny crack ship, more or less, and it was pretty striking that - especially compared to Reylo, Stormpilot and Jedistormpilot, the Kylux ship was very, very chill.

I also believe that it's not really a case of "people switching ships after abandoning their old one" but instead, a lot of people branched out and started being interested in the other ship in addition to their old one.

(Anonymous) 2016-04-23 09:35 am (UTC)(link)
I don't know how a person can ship something that's as shallow as a puddle, but it probably doesn't say anything good about you.

idk this seems like a weak excuse for fandom worshipping the white cock as usual. I'm not surprised Kylux became a huge deal because omg two homely white dudes. If a ship featuring two completely hideous males like Clint/Coulson can become a juggernaut, nothing surprises me at this point.

(Anonymous) 2016-04-23 10:18 am (UTC)(link)
You know, you writing the exactly same whiny text every time this comes up doesn't make it any more true. A lot of Kylo/Hux shippers ALSO ship Stormpilot, but you are great at ignoring it in favour of your 'WAAAHHHH people ship what I don't like'.

I think it's probably a bit of both? (And anon below, you don't have to come at me again, I got it the first time.)

[personal profile] arcadiaego 2016-04-23 10:39 pm (UTC)(link)
Well this explains a lot.

(Anonymous) 2016-04-23 01:04 pm (UTC)(link)
There's a whopping 6% more Hux/Kylo fic on AO3 than there is Poe/Finn right now (2508 fics vs. 2357 fics). "Confirmed for being just as full of shit as every other fandom" is perhaps a wee bit strong, given the circumstances.

(Anonymous) 2016-04-23 12:43 am (UTC)(link)
It's not popular because Poe fans who are happy for the representation don't want to read about a MOC being abused by a white guy. This isn't the usual case you're trying to make.

(Anonymous) 2016-04-23 06:50 am (UTC)(link)
What about dom!Poe/sub!Kylo? Cause frankly that's the shit I wanna read. Poe getting his comeuppance and whatnot.

(Anonymous) 2016-04-23 02:00 pm (UTC)(link)
DA

Not trying to harsh your glow, Nonny; if that's what brings you joy, go for it. But that entire line of thinking is so weird to me. When a character I like is tortured by a villain, I don't want them to have sex in any circumstances. I just want my beloved character to get over his trauma, and depending on the situation, maybe to defeat (or even kill) the villain on the battlefield.

wah wah kinks I don't ~get~

Oh, I quite like Kylo/Poe. And there've been some Kylo/Finn fics that I've enjoyed (I don't know if I'd say they were good but I enjoyed them well enough).

(Anonymous) 2016-04-23 02:22 am (UTC)(link)
I ship Kylo/Poe.

It truly irritates me that these "Reylo is abusive because of that scene where he interrogates her" people don't make the connection that he does the exact same thing to Poe!

(Oh I should specify I ship Reformed Ben/Poe.)
darnaguen: (Default)

[personal profile] darnaguen 2016-04-23 12:16 pm (UTC)(link)
I guess it's because the ship isn't popular enough for people to actively romanticize it.

(Anonymous) 2016-04-23 04:03 pm (UTC)(link)
Eeh, exact same thing, but it's offscreen

It's the difference between knowing Morpheus and Niobe were probably fucking at some points during the movies, and watching Neo and Trinity tear eachother's clothes off.

Sometimes not showing stuff leaves more to the imagination, but sometimes...

In this case it was probably people watching the scene, seeing Rey tied down but defiant, and Kylo taking his helmet off and being menacing, and going "Why yes! I am aroused at this!" and being inspired to go write about the two characters fucking. As opposed to just knowing Poe was being in a similar situation offscreen wasn't likely to get anyone's motor running with so much else going on.
