Re: What critically acclaimed movies have you never been able to get all the way thru?

The Godfather, Goodfellas, 2001 A Space Odyssey.

I've tried multiple times for each of them. I just can't. They're SO boring.

I got through Goodfellas but I remember absolutely nothing about it except that I didn't really care for it. I still have to give The Godfather a try.

The Godfather is just the worst for me. I have tried five times to sit through it, and each time I've tapped out around 20 minutes in after nothing happens.

It's supposed to be such a great film but I can't do it man.

I'm okay with a lot of stories where "nothing happens" depending on what kind of nothing it is, so I might end up liking that one if I ever finally get to it.

If you can stomach a lot of reaaaallllyyyy long establishing shots interspersed with vague political mob machinations, then it'll be a breeze.

Co-signed for 2001. Christ, that movie.

I think that one is only three tries for me, and the farthest I've gotten is half an hour before I couldn't do it any more.

I think that's about as far as I got when I tried properly. I happened to catch the last 20 minutes or so later on, and...it really didn't make me regret quitting the first time, heh.

It's weird, because there are things I can appreciate about it. I like that kind of pacing and I like the way that Kubrick frames his shots (and I love 'The Shining' and 'A Clockwork Orange'). But 2001 just doesn't work for me.

Isn't that strange. I also think The Shining and A Clockwork Orange were just fine, but 2001 just absolutely loses me.

+1 to the Godfather and Goodfellas, I couldn't manage twenty minutes of either movie before peacing out and doing something else. I just found the so damn boring.

I can sit through 2001, but I credit that to trying to read the book. Stubborn determination got me through it but the damn thing is as dry and boring as hell. In comparison the movie is easier.
