It's once Will can give as good as he gets that the idea of them being romantic didn't skeeve me out. Because let's face it, Hannibal needs a romantic partner who does things like throw him off cliffs occasionally.

I even like skeevy pairings sometime in a one-sided sort of way. But with this one I needed Will to be able to give it back. And plus, the idea of Hannibal's seduction and corruption of Will actually working makes the pairing much more interesting to me.

Oh, I definitely like the slow corruption of Will, though I also think that it was part a corruption and part an 'unearthing' of something that had been in Will all along.

He was creepy as hell in his interactions with basically everyone in Italy. When he made murder art with Chiyoh's prisoner (which Hannibal would never even SEE), that's the point where I went "oooookaaay, Dark Will it is."

Oh, totally. I think the best corruptions are the ones who bring out dark sides in people who already have them, they are just buried.

I (somewhat recently) started a rewatch, and was surprised about how many little instances there were when Will said something sketchy/dark even in S1. They're a brilliant build to what he became.

But if, let's say, only S1 had existed and we'd never gotten S2 and S3, dark! Will might be a fun AU, but would never be the obvious conclusion, because it wouldn't have to go that way. But the building blocks of it were there all along.

I'm somewhat ashamed to admit that the first time I saw S2 (watching it week to week), I was still in the headspace of 'Will's the good guy, that's how stories go, and he's doing bad things, because he has to,' because that's kind of the expected narrative, I think. Whereas in retrospect, things Will does to catch Hannibal are like HOLY WARNING SIGNS BATMAN.

Agreed. I love how complicated the characterization is on this show. For nearly every character. I'm all about complex characterization.
