Having to slot yourself into "boy" or "girl" can cause one to experience dysphoria. I wouldn't expect Pokemon to have that accommodation, but it could easily be added into most games. Just an "other" option that allows you to input your pronouns (just like you do with your characters name) would solve the problem.

Alternatively you could get rid of the gendered nouns entirely and just let the player pick their character's body. There are only a handful of times gender will be later referenced in a Pokemon game anyway.

If you can't pick a gender and use either masculine or feminine pronouns, whether or not you actively identify as that gender or simply feel no personal preference, then your life is going to be a lot more difficult than simply playing a game of Pokemon. The world is not going to accommodate people who make up pronouns or can't default to one gender or the other.

mte, society has two slots and you have to pick one, sad as it is but them's the breaks
