If that's the case, what else can people say but "Oh yeah, it starts off kind of weak but it gets really good after X number of episodes"?

How about "fine, to each their own, let's talk about something we're both into?"

Of course you're under no obligation to wait until your entertainment gets worth watching, but if you're complaining to someone that you couldn't get through two episodes of a popular show and they say that it gets better, they're not necessarily saying you must watch that far.

That's never the case with me. They bring up the show, and explicitly tell me "oh, you gotta watch this!" I say I couldn't get through two episodes of it, they tell me "you gotta give it a fair shot! It takes 10 episodes to get good!" The next 20 minutes is me trying to change the subject (unsuccessfully).
