I wrote some of my best fics in late high school/college. That was so long ago now that I honestly hardly remember them. Sure, there's a few typos here and there and some awkward metaphors that I wouldn't use now, but I feel fairly "detached" from that being my work. I can honestly say I've enjoyed reading a lot of those fics, and kind of wish I could still write like that.

I haven't written fic for years (haven't written fiction for years, really) and I'm a little scared this will be me one day. I used to think that it was like riding a bike -- once you pick it up, it's a breeze to get back on even after however long of a hiatus -- but after seeing favorite authors crawl out of breaks and noticeably rusty, I suppose my own skillset is suffering from disuse as well.
