+100000 to all of this. I had a friend with BPD. I was lucky, and listened to the little cautionary voice in my brain suggesting I keep this friend at arms length, so when out friendship crashed and burned it only messed me up a little bit. But even having had that little bit of experience with BPD, I basically can't imagine what it must be like for people who have close family members with the disorder.
