Ah, I see. Well, you're right in that Crickley Hall (and other movies/stories of that genre) aren't much like mainstream horror but I quite like them and the psychological horror is very effective. The British have a great tradition of old school horror writers to draw from, too. Not just James Herbert (who wrote Crickley Hall) but M.R. James as well. You might also like these other British adaptations:
