I wanted to like this show more than I did. Love some of the ideas (living ship, bound living pilot, the peacekeepers), but disliked some of the wackier bits and execution of some of the ideas. It's definitely not a show for everyone. If you don't like it half way into season 2 when it properly starts kicking into the wormhole stuff, you aren't going to. I think that's partly why I didn't like it as much as I wanted too, everything ended up revolving around wormholes and ehhh......

I actually avoided this show for years because I thought I'd hate it for some reason, then I finally sat down to watch it not too long ago and I really enjoyed it, like I want to know everything about the setting(aliens, ships etc).

But sometimes we end up loving what we expect to dislike and disliking what we expect to love, it's weird.

Icon love. Zhaan and her blue hotness are the main reason I keep watching.

She's one of the big draws for me too, I really like her but I've also grown interested in other things too which is fun.

I've seen all of it, but I don't love it. I kept watching because Claudia Black was fantastic; the eps she missed due to her pregnancy were excruciatingly bad.

(Anonymous) 2016-04-27 11:36 pm (UTC)(link)
Gotta agree with you on Claudia Black being the absolute best part of the show. Before finding this show on Netflix, I had only ever known her as "that distinctive-looking genre-famous woman who's in an episode or two of everything." It was a bit of a surprise to me to see just how compelling she was, even if it wasn't enough for me to keep watching past about the midway point of season 2.

6 episodes is about my cutoff point, too.

Let's face it: Muppets in space on crack is a niche genre.

(Anonymous) 2016-04-28 12:04 am (UTC)(link)
I wish that were a real thing.

...that is my go-to description of Farscape.

Sorry, Nonny...

(Anonymous) 2016-04-28 03:43 pm (UTC)(link)
... but now I want to see the Pigs in Space version.

I feel this way about Firefly.

This is Farscape, right? I think I watched the first couple of episodes of this show a few years back but didn't really care about what was happening.

(Anonymous) 2016-04-28 02:06 am (UTC)(link)
Ugh! Firefly does not deserve the fanfare and love it gets.

I remember seeing an odd episode here and there as a kid and I loved the aesthetics but I never had any clue what was going on. May be time to revisit this one!

(Anonymous) 2016-04-28 12:28 am (UTC)(link)
I'm sad that you didn't like this show because I adore it, but I can get behind the 6 episode rule, even if something "got better in season two". I'd rather not waste my time on it.

(Anonymous) 2016-04-29 02:37 pm (UTC)(link)
I do think that if you're going to give something "only six episodes" it's not a bad idea to ask a fan which six episodes to watch. For example, Parks and Rec: if I had started with the first six episodes rather than being dropped into Season 2, I would never have watched it. The first six episodes of that show are...not good.

I felt like I should like it better

(Anonymous) 2016-04-28 01:37 am (UTC)(link)
It's sci-fi! It's goofy! It's got muppets! It's different!

And... I only ever kind of liked it.

That's legit, OP. I love Farscape, but I have feels similar to yours about Firefly. Everyone told me how I'd love it. I finished it and watched Serenity and...meh. Honestly didn't care for it. So I've learned to accept that I generally don't enjoy what others around me have hyped when it comes to TV.

I'm on S2 and it's so very silly but I'm enjoying it. It feels very...Australian. And I honestly really love John?

Three episodes is my limit if I'm not getting into something. I sort of hesitate to look up what happened in the first three eps of this show.

8 episodes is my cut-off, though sometimes I'll be so bored that I'll stop after 2 or 3 and then come back to it much later and try again. I remember I wasn't into Merlin BBC at all, stopped trying to watch it for about a year, came back and ended up loving it. (This is the show that also gave me 8 episode rule because that's what it took.)

Re: Farscape, it's once of my favorite shows and I love it. Tbh, I have a hard time imagining why someone wouldn't like it because it's everything I'd ever want in a show, but I like weird, dark sci-fi and muppets A LOT, so.

Wow, anon, three seasons of a show you didn't like. I'm impressed, I'm bad at watching three seasons of a show I LOVE!

[identity profile] ladyguinevere83.livejournal.com 2016-04-28 07:54 pm (UTC)(link)
Eh, I started watching when it was first on and found it pretty dull and gave up. While I was on maternity leave I burned through a lot of old series and that was one. I did make it all the way through this time, but it was just sort of okay. Guess some things don't change!

Teresa Nielsen Hayden had a good answer for all those people who whine "But you can't judge a work unless you've read/watched/listened to the whole thing!"

Sure you can. You don't need to drink a whole carton of milk before you can tell that it's bad.
