Isn't she a slave girl? Like isn't that part of her races name? Somthing-somthing slave girl? I disapprove. Of all of it.

I thought they were dancing girls? Twi'lek dancing girls? Not exactly galaxies better, but she's not a slave. Are you thinking of the girls from star trek?

I admire your willingness to have strong opinions about things you know basically nothing about.

(Anonymous) 2016-04-27 11:35 pm (UTC)(link)
Yes the entire race of people from that planet are slaves, that makes sense

To be fair to anon, the only Twi'lek' that the average person (i.e. those who don't consume EU material) knows is Oola from 'Return of the Jedi'. So I could see where the misconception is coming from.

I still don't get how someone could make the leap that one member of a race being a slave– and Twi'lek's are popular in slave trading don't get me wrong, to the entire populace of a planet, and a race that obviously travels intergalactically and lives on planets apart from their origin are slaves. it would be like assuming all Rodians are bounty hunters because we only see Greedo in the movie, or that all Wookies are smugglers. like... what??

(Anonymous) 2016-04-28 01:28 am (UTC)(link)
I'm guessing they confuse it with Trek where the Orion ladies are all slaves.

Uh... I'm pretty sure it is canon. I mean, I'm not part of the fandom, and I neither ship it nor dislike the ship, but I do watch the show. If these two aren't meant to be canon, the writers are doing something wrong.

(Anonymous) 2016-04-28 12:10 am (UTC)(link)
If they were canon, the fans wouldn't be so rabid about them. I've never seen Anakin/Padme or Han/Leia shippers act so nasty.

You know what? I don't ever recall any major ship wars or rabid shippers in the fandom in general. Not even with Knights of the Old Republic, and that's where a lot of early BioWare fandom cut its teeth.

But by the time Star Wars fandom came to prominence on the internet, a lot of the official couples were solidified, so people just kinda towed the canon line (the 'no slash' ban on TFN for the better part of a decade probably suppressed a potentially nasty shipwar between Anakin/Padme and Anakin/Obi-Wan, I think, but let me just take off my tin foil hat for a moment to check) until just recently.

(Anonymous) 2016-04-28 01:11 am (UTC)(link)
Like I said, I'm not in the fandom. I've just seen every episode of the show, and as far as I can tell, they're in a low-key romantic relationship.

In my primary fandom, the most unpleasant group of shippers is attached to a canon couple, so I'm not sure what canon status has to do with rabid fans.

(Anonymous) 2016-04-27 11:34 pm (UTC)(link)
Wait what? I watch this show and assumed they -were- canon already. Is it not obvious to everyone already that they're clearly dating...?

(Anonymous) 2016-04-27 11:46 pm (UTC)(link)
Word of God is that they're not, the writers just het-bait the hell out of them.

And honestly I've always just seen them as good friends.

(Anonymous) 2016-04-28 01:23 am (UTC)(link)
I just assumed they were dating on the DL because of his Jedi thing

(Anonymous) 2016-04-28 07:46 pm (UTC)(link)
I really want them to be good friends as well. They love each other, clearly, but that can also be them having a kick ass friendship.

(Anonymous) 2016-04-27 11:53 pm (UTC)(link)
I hate this pairing and I hate the shippers so much. I want to love the fandom, but the shippers insistence on every single thing on the show being 'proof' of how much Hera wants Kanan's D makes me want to punch people. Hera having issues with her father? It's because she's nervous about him meeting her secretly canon husband! Hera smiled at Zeb? She must be thinking about her husband!

And that's not even getting into how nasty they are to anyone who ships anything else.

And that's not even getting into how nasty they are to anyone who ships anything else.

Or pay attention to other characters that aren't Kanan and Hera, for that matter. I got heavily pass-aggroed by someone who was angling to be a BNF in the fandom really bad because I paid more attention to Zeb than I did Hera in the run up to the show (i.e. drawing fan art, posting meta, etc). After a not-so-subtle public humiliation, I realized I was way too old for that high school mind game bullshit and decided not to bother with the fandom after that. I haven't even bothered to put up the autograph photo of Zeb I got from Steve Blum because that left the rankest taste in my mouth, lmao.

Then again, Star Wars fandom in general is a toxic cesspool no matter where you go (hello, Bring Back Legends!), so OP's secret does not surprise me in the least. Not at all. :/

Can we maybe be friends? I love Zeb and he's so under appreciated. And I swear I left the highschool mentality when I left highschool a decade ago.

(Anonymous) 2016-04-28 07:39 pm (UTC)(link)
I adore Zeb, and am sad that there isn't a whole lot about him. Or there isn't without Kallus as well now. I mean, I don't hate the ship by any means, but it irks me that Zeb got next to no fandom love until people found a way to ship him with someone.

Yeah, not gonna lie, that kind of irked me, too. I'd long left the fandom at that point, but seeing Zeb/Kallus stuff pop up right after that one episode aired just kind of made me... resentful that people only started caring about him now that he could be shipped with someone (that wasn't Ezra)? Yeah.

I used to really like Zeb, but I can't bring myself to love him as much as I used to. Even purged all my fan art I'd drawn of him, too. It just wasn't worth agitating my anxiety or risk pissing more people off in the Rebels fandom by having it or the fanblog I'd made for him originally still up. :/ (But F!S isn't the place to talk about that, though, lmao)

Ugh I am so sorry to hear that. That is not how it should be. And while I used to really enjoy the fandom, my GOSH. At times it is so, SO quick to dog pile when they see an "offense", it's really driven me away.

I always think about how I went into this series liking the idea of Kanera, but some of the fans of it, the vocal ones, have just driven me away from it so hard that I get a momentary sick feeling whenever I see it mentioned. I haven't drawn art of them again since the one pic I had of them. *sigh*

(Anonymous) 2016-04-28 10:31 pm (UTC)(link)
I feel conflicted about Zeb/Kallus because on one hand, finally a slash ship gaining a little traction and there's an artist I watch who shipped it way back since the beginning of the series who's so happy her little ship is bigger than a kayak.

On the other I can't help but feel it's only because with that episode people can now justify it as a Non-Problematic Ship(tm), and all the "The white guy was secretly good all along!" is badly timed with the "The brown guy main character is SECRETLY EVIL!"
