I totally agree. Every time I watch reruns, I have to force myself not to think of the last couple of seasons, which is a total bummer.

I actually liked everything (minus a few odd episodes) up until the final. In my mind, the wedding was the perfect ending. The final ruins everything that happened before.

So THIS is what it feels like to see a secret that matches your feelings exactly! I stopped watching the show entirely because I could not stand Ted. I want to punch him in the nuts. I want the other characters to punch him in the nuts because their show was ruined by that sad, dull, pathetic excuse for a human being.

This is a show where the most popular character is a sleazy pick-up artist who borders on the supernatural (and crosses into the cartoonish) and I would much rather watch that guy than Ted. (I do genuinely find Barney entertaining but I recognize that he is a misogynistic character.)

My ideal show is a Marshall/Lilly show with Barney as a co-star and an older couple of color that Marshall and Lilly turn to for advice and well deserved insults.

I'd probably watch your version.

I would watch the hell out of your version as well.

This does not seem to be unpopular. In fact, I think I'm the only Ted Mosby fan. He doesn't seem to be any more self-absorbed than the rest of them.

Lily is the one that I couldn't stand by the end.

Ted was never called on it, though. The show seemed to think he was awesome and deserved to get everything he wanted (including Robin, even though she clearly never expressed any feelings for him once they broke up and in fact made clear she wasn't at all into him that way). And Ted himself seemed to think he deserved to get everything he wanted and was mad when he didn't and kept pushing until he did (especially with Robin).

(Anonymous) 2016-04-28 11:19 pm (UTC)(link)
I just didn't see it that way at all, I guess. I don't think any of them were called on anything and the whole Ted/Robin thing made neither of them look good.

(Anonymous) 2016-04-28 11:22 pm (UTC)(link)
Neither of them? What did Robin do? She never returned his feelings. When she knew he was still in love with her and Marshall said she had to move out, she did. She only ever treated Ted like a friend after the whole sleeping together while they were living together thing.

(Anonymous) 2016-04-29 05:31 pm (UTC)(link)
Um, did you miss that whole thing with his wedding to Stella, where Robin came back and said she might still be in love with him? I mean, that's just one example.

(Anonymous) 2016-04-29 05:50 pm (UTC)(link)
SA Nvm, I just remembered that scene is from before they were doing the whole roommates-with-benefits thing. But, htat's easily replaced by the time after her and Don's breakup, where she goes to kiss Ted but then stops because he looks too weird with blond hair. Or that time she's freaking out about not being able to find her ring in Central Park, she calls both him and Barney; Ted comes, Barney doesn't, and Robin thinks it means she should be Ted and not Barney. Or...like there are a number of examples of this. People love to pin it all on Ted but this ship made Robin a MESS.

(Anonymous) 2016-04-29 05:51 pm (UTC)(link)
*she should be marrying Ted and not Barney, is what that was meant to say.

(Anonymous) 2016-04-29 05:29 pm (UTC)(link)
You're not the only Ted fan. *solidarity fistbump*

(Anonymous) 2016-04-28 11:38 pm (UTC)(link)
He's terrible, but I wouldn't call him the worst character of all time. He's completely in the Ross from Friends / JD from Scrubs tradition of terrible male characters.

(Anonymous) 2016-04-29 06:51 am (UTC)(link)
I was just rewatching Scrubs and was struck how similar JD and Ted are. Like all their terrible traits are basically the same, and they're pretty insufferable.

I didn't hate him but I definitely didn't like him much by the end of the show.

(Anonymous) 2016-04-29 01:39 am (UTC)(link)
I still love Ted because I just discount some of the later plots. It was so obvious that it was showrunner bullshit. See some of the actors/writers and the director were really hardcore for Barney/Robin. NPH, Colbie, Pamela, they were all really pro-Barney/Robin. One half of CBCT (the one who Ted was based on) wouldn't let Ted/Robin go. That's why Ted feels like such whiplash sometimes. It's two different people trying to shove in two different stories at once. And I personally go with cutting out some plots/the ending and following the writers/actors who wanted Barney/Robin to sail.
