1. Neelix was waaaaaayyyyyy creep/stalkery/almost abusive to Kes, but once she left I was fine with him.
2. In what way was Tom creepy? I'm serious in wanting to know how you view this.

Not OP, but I felt like Tom felt like the only reason he couldn't be with Kes was because she "belonged to" Neelix. There was no sense that her feelings on the matter were important to either him or Neelix. And he kind of came onto her a bit like he had no self control and couldn't stop himself from staring.

Both of those are fairly common in real life (I may not like it, but they are - hence the number of women in bars that have had to wear fake rings or have a guy friend pretend to be a boyfriend) so I wasn't really bothered by either because I figured it was reflective of true life.

I find it creepy in real life too, though. It doesn't matter to me that it is realistic. Still creepy.

How does that makes it not creepy? Acting like women are the property of their male SOs and their feelings are secondary to this fact is fucking creepy

It's been years since I watched Voyager, but I remember him being kind of annoying. Not hateworthy, really, but annoying.

I agree that once Kes was gone, he was an okay character. He was a bit much at times but I liked him when he had some more serious episodes. I hated how self-righteous he could get, but when he got away from that, he was okay.

I remember being fine with him, though bored if the ep centered around him. But then I haven't seen the show since I was a teenager and I also remembered Wesley Crusher as being ok until I rewatched some TNG eps as an adult, soooo...

I never really liked Tom's crush on Kes either, since it came and went so suddenly and never really amounted to anything. I think it was because Tom was supposed to be a bit of a troublemaker, a 'scoundrel', except they pretty much redeemed him in the first ep, so they were at a loss for a while.

Do I just not remember this right? I remember him being insecure and kind of clingy with Kes but not really abusive?

I agree, people are being hyperbolic as usual. If Neelix was handsome there wouldn't be nearly as much describing of him as creepy.

I have never watched this show before, except for the other night when an episode was on TV. (I've watched other Trek - DS9, TOS, but not Voyager.)

This character (and Kes? the blonde girl?) were featured in it. And, knowing absolutely nothing else about them, I have to say - what a creepy relationship dynamic. Eeeughhhh. It's sort of put me off watching Voyager.
