Not exactly a remake (yet, but it will be), but changes in Final Fantasy VII from the original game to Advent Children:

-Changing Aeris from a fun, mischievous, brave and lively person to a blushing virginal statue
-Changing the Turks, especially Reno, from a sly, terrifying mass murderer to a silly comic relief who feels bad about stuff
-Making Zack still "alive" - his spirit should not exist anymore, it should've long since totally decomposed into the Lifestream. Unless he's a hallucination Cloud is having and not literally there, but since Aeris is implied to be more literally there the Zack thing is annoying as fuck
-Making Tseng and Rufus alive. (blah blah blah rumor has it Tseng wasn't supposed to be implied to have died but whatever, still awkward and Rufus definitely should not have survived being exploded)

Don't forget, making Cloud a perpetual emo sadsack. I replayed the game and, at least up until his mental breakdown, he actually had a fairly dry sense of humor at times and was generally chill. Made the whole personality shift in AC and in subsequent media all the more jarring.

Oh god how did I forget that?

Cloud, by the end of the game, has more or less figured shit out. He knows what he is and what he isn't and he's even got some of his humor back. The character growth he goes through is enormous and it's like AC forgot about all of that, and made him into someone he really never was, even at his worst.

I heard that rumour about Tseng aaaggggeeesss ago back when the game came out but had no way to confirm or deny it. It did seem a little weird that they just left him there to die and all....

Flash forward to the 2010s I'm fluent in Japanese living in Japan and I someone brings up the Tseng thing again and I go look it up...

Teal deer, yes, the rumour is true, he is never implied to have died in the Japanese version, just been badly injured. I can go into exactly what the differences are if you want.

That may be, but he is VERY notably absent from the rest of the game. No one even mentions him, beyond Elena's rather cryptic line. And considering Aeris's emotional reaction to him presumably dying -as well a Sephiroth scene demonstrating how brutal he is, even to Shinra, it just doesn't make sense for him to still be alive, whether intended or not. His story is tied to Aeris, he doesn't really have any purpose beyond that

Welp, I can see the argument that "it would have been better if he died" I'm just telling you how the original story actually went.

Presumably he's not there for the rest of the game because he's recovering from his injuries. It could be that they'd thought of other shit for him to do later but it never made it into the final cut. It always seemed uncharacteristic of the AVALANCHE crew just to... leave him there to die when the Temple collapses even though if you go back to talk to him after he's said his post-stabbing spiel he says "I'm... still alive..."

Like, they have cell phones. I imagine he just called the other Turks for a rescue. It makes no sense for him not to have. He can still speak.
