Help a Tumblr noob?

I got tired of bookmarking a dozen separate Tumblrs and finally got myself an account so I can follow everything at once. Is there a way to turn off the recommendations on the sidebar? And to tell it to stop interrupting me every two seconds to highlight the reblog button and show me that it's a thing I can do? Is there anything else I should know? (And are there any of you I should be following?)

Welcome to Tumblr! If you install X-Kit, I think it takes away the recommendations? I'm not sure about the other things though. Also be careful, there's always spam on the tags, there's an extension called Blacklist on X-Kit which can clear away the spam!

Get Xkit from the new-xkit-extension blog. Go through the extensions in it and install which ones you want, the configure. You'll like tumblr so much better that way.
