Fun fact: with a few exceptions I almost exclusively play as female characters whenever I'm given the option. Even when the MC is effectively a cipher intended to be a stand-in for the player (for example in Fallout 3 or Dark Souls) I have a harder time identifying with a male fucko.

I almost always go for the male option because I feel slightly creepy going for the female one. Especially since most of the female characters in MMOs are way too implausibly sexy and I don't know, it feels like buying into or somehow approving of the super sexy bikini warrior thing to play one and god knows there are already way too many dudes playing female characters just to ogle her tits or put her in sexual positions in game anyway.

Now if only all the male characters weren't hulking huge musclebeasts, that'd be great, because I don't like those either. But I'm still more comfortable with those than being That Guy playing the waify bikini lass.

In games where the bikini warrior thing isn't an issue, I have no trouble playing the female characters but there are so few of them out there.
