I hated those changes. They were too cutesy and anachronistic. A white girl who grew up in India wouldn't have Sara's wide-eyed color- and class-blindness (the scene where Lottie tells her they can't talk to Becky because she's a servant and black, and Sara goes "Soooo?" nearly made my eyes rollout of my head. It doesn't make her look ahead of her time, it makes her look stupid. I understood this when I was ten). And her father being alive was just another tired example of having to change things because the original wasn't "happy" enough. That's right, all you kids whose parents died, nobody who adopts and loves you will ever be as good as your bio parents. The movie sayeth so.

Sorry I'm bitter because I used to love that movie and then I read the book and it was so much better.
