I have said it before and I will say it again: Sphere.

I felt the book was making a case of the main character being able to [barely] control the powers the sphere gave, because he understood how minds worked. The movie had him go into the Sphere earlier and become part of the ongoing problems instead of going into it later to solve them.

Yes, this is a movie pet peeve I will always remember.
