There's two other people in this city - one I've actually met in person and while we don't talk a lot, we are at least friendly (and I think they or the other person works at my college, I just don't see them)

Me and the other person would just start sniping at each other on sight., we don't get along on the internet but they're a BNF so they're kind of everywhere >_>

Yep! A couple years ago, I spent the night with one of my old guild members from WoW. Even after he stopped playing, we texted and such. So we took a bit of a detour to spend the night visiting him.

And when I was in DC an old guildmate drove up to visit us. He drove us two hours to get "real cheesesteaks".

A few. In one case, I think we actually realized how little we have in common. :/ We were great fandom friends, not such great RL friends.

you shouldn't feel bad about that, sometimes that's just all two people have in common is a fandom. The first time that happened to me I was a lot younger and I felt really guilty about it at first.

Tons. For the X1999 fandom especially, we were all pretty close-knit. I met a lot of people who shared my fandoms through cosplay, too. Then scores more doing the doujinshi/book market circuit for DSRK.

I have actually met people from the Cap fandom in real life now. Some are on my facebook. Still a bit paranoid though, especially as I write adult stuff.

My literal best friend in the world is someone I met online, and though we didn't technically meet through fandom (original introduction via a mutual friend on a website for original writing) it's one of the first things we really started bonding over. We met in person for the first time a few months ago, when he did a massive tour of my country and spent about two weeks here with me. It was awkward for about an hour, and then we fell right into the same rhythm we've had online for over ten years and had a great time.

Well, sort of. I've met some of MY fans, so I guess we share fandoms of stuff I write?

It's generally been a pretty awesome experience, honestly! I've only had, like, ONE "oh dear god no you're creepy."

I've met several people online and then IRL. Two in particular, one is a now exboyfriend and then I met one amazing person who we then traveled around the US and had super awesome celebrity encounters.

It's a give and take. One of my friends, well we met on the streets of NYC waiting at the Doctor Who premiere and have become amazing friends.

Yup. My bff i met online (on LJ) and we subsequently met up, and continue to meet up. I've stayed at her house a few times and vice-versa. She is the best! I've met a handful of other LJ friends over the years, too, but most are too far away to make it feasible.

There was a period of a couple of years or so when I was friends with a girl here in Brisbane w2ho I came to know through the Transformers fandom.

Somewhat ironically, I first heard of her in uncomplimentary terms in an RP I joined, but when I encountered her elsewhere in the fandom I was polite if initially wary, and found her to be nowhere as bad as it was made out.
Of course the fact that I ran afoul of the clique who spoke ill of her probably didn't hurt my direct reaction to her, because if they could assume I was "trouble" then maybe they blew things out of proportion with her as well.

But I became friends with her, hung out with her around Brisbane, went to see both 2012 and one of the TF movies (I don't recall if it was the second or third) with her and even helped her get her cat desexed.

But she moved to Tasmania and though she's managed to move out of her mother's house and into a city, she's still down there, and we don't talk much now and are probably in totally different fandoms.

I've met two people I talked to online over the years. One woman was from Australia, and she and I were both fans of the same musicians (the Finn Brothers), and nearly 10 years ago, she was taking a trip around the U.S., and came to stay with me for a week as part of her trip.

We've still kept in touch, too, writing letters to each other (actual letters). I've fallen a bit behind in catching up, because of other things getting in the way recently, but I'm hoping to write her back soon.

And then a couple years back, I met a woman who lives in Vegas-we're both "Criminal Minds" fans, and started connecting online when I left reviews for a fantastic story she'd written for that fandom.

She happens to have family who live in Iowa (in a town I used to live in, no less!), and when she came out to see them, she also swung through my town briefly and we went to lunch.

We still keep in touch, too-e-mail each other often, continue to leave comments on each other's stories, etc., and someday I hope to get to Vegas to visit her for a while. She's left the invitation open, so I just need to find the time and gather up the money for it.

I've met two! Both were great =)

I'm actually planning a trip to see one again next year, and since they BOTH live in the same city I might get to see the other one again as well~

I also have my best friend, who I KNEW before, through another friend, but when we found out we were both fandom nerds we became much closer. The fact that now we are best friends is probably partially because of this.
